NOTICE TO MARINERS NO. 3/00

RIVER WYE - CHEPSTOW TOWN BRIDGE REDUCED CLEARANCE

Refurbishment work on the Chepstow Town Bridge (B4228 Road Bridge) has commenced. This work is likely to be completed at the end of October 2000. During Phase 1 of these works, scaffolding and staging will reduce the width of the centre span to 15 metres and close the two northern spans to navigation. During Phase 2 of these works, scaffolding and staging will reduce the width of the centre span to 15 metres and close the two southern spans to navigation.

Scaffolding and staging will extend from road level to the top of the masonry piers

The obstruction will be marked at night by four red lanterns on each of the upstream and downstream sides, and by day with signboards warning of reduced clearances.

A safety boat will be moored close to the bridge for the duration of the works.

Mariners are reminded of the need to navigate with caution in the vicinity of the bridge and to be aware of the reduction in available air-draught when navigating close to the sides of the centre span.

This notice is self-cancelling.

Owners, Agents and Charterers should ensure that the contents of this Notice are made known to the Masters or persons in charge of their vessels or craft.
