What is Sports Development?

Sport can play a significant role in helping to develop and enhance the lives of people and communities. Sport is fun, and Sports Development is about encouraging people to participate in sport and recreation, and helping them to achieve at whatever level they aspire to.

What work are we involved in?

These are some of the projects the District Council are involved in……..

Wildin Cup Competitions

These are a series of mini sport challenges aimed at providing additional opportunities for primary age pupils, they also provide sports leadership experience for older students.

The Western Counties Youth Games

15 Local Authorities competing against each other on an annual basis in 8 different sports. You could be involved as a coach or competitor.

‘Awards for All’ small grants scheme

An opportunity for clubs and organizations to gain funding from £500 - £5000 to develop sport in the community.

Sports courses

Providing opportunities for people to take part and improve their skills in sport.

Coach Development and Education

Providing opportunities for people to qualify as leaders or coaches. This may be National Governing Body qualifications or generic courses such as Child Protection Or First Aid.

Club Development

Helping clubs develop their junior sections.

Active Sports Gloucestershire

This national programme aims to give young people structured access to organized sport and help them to increase their levels of skill and ability to their chosen level.

The TOP programmes

An opportunity for organizations to gain training, resource cards and equipment to deliver quality sports opportunities to schools, sports clubs and other organizations for young people aged 4 – 11years.
