Home Walks Inns of the Past

Alongside the KINGS HEAD is Spout Lane. Behind the garage, at the end of the lane was the QUEENS HEAD or JENNY LIND (7). This was still in business in 1859 when Richard Underwood held the establishment.

Back up towards the KINGS HEAD on the right was the COLEFORD BREWERY (8). This was in the 1840's owned and occupied by John Trotter.
Come back out on to Bank Street and turn right towards the Library. At the junction of St John Street and Bank Street opposite Raymond's Stores you can see a sign on a house of a world map with 'HELP ME THROUGH THE WORLD' (9). This pub had that name, although it was called the MASONS ARMS from 1877. In more recent years it reverted to its original name.
