photoRuardean C. of  E. Primary School is situated in a totally rural location on the edge of the village, and has superb open views of countryside for many miles, and with the mountains of Wales in the distance.

This is a Church of England (controlled) primary school for mixed pupils aged 4-11 years. The main school building was built during the last century, and is now used to house the reception/year 1 children, and the hall, library and offices. New classrooms were erected during 1994/95, providing further space, and also a specialised class for children with language difficulties from all over the Forest of Dean.

At Ruardean we believe in getting to know each child thoroughly in order to build on each child's strengths within a happy and secure atmosphere.

We consider that education is a partnership between parents and teachers by which we aim to give each child the best opportunity for learning.  We consider that we are successful if a child leaves our school with an enthusiastic approach towards continued learning and development.

We have an "open-door" policy for parents, and telephone calls and visits are warmly received, as they help us to get to know each other better, but please ring to arrange a time when we are free to talk to you.  We also welcome parents into school to help with many aspects of school life, and have a thriving "Friends of the School Association".

We are a well-equipped school with up to date Information Technology provision (we use PC computers) and in the last three years have been working hard at building up our library.  Our toilet and washing facilities have been recently upgraded to a very hight standard.  We have a new hard playing area, and a mature conservation area which we plan to develop into an outdoor classroom.

Ruardean is a small school catering for about 90 children, and we have a happy, friendly atmosphere.

At out OFSTED inspection in June 1996 we were reported to be a "good school".  "Relationships within the school are very good at all levels. Pupils show initiative and conduct themselves responsibly.  Standards of pupils' behaviour are very good. The quality of teaching within the school is generally very good.  The school is well managed, and provides good value for money."
