Follow the progress of David Mushet, metallurgist, and his son Robert who perfected the Bessemer Process of self-hardening steel. Visit Whitecliff furnace where David Mushet first worked in Coleford and the Dark Hill Ironworks created by him. Adjacent to that site is the remains (almost lost) of Robert's Titanic Steelworks at Gorsty Knoll. Robert was born in Coleford and you may see the house of his birth.
