Churches
St. Mary the Virgin, Upleadon This church at Upleadon is probably well over a thousand years old, and stands on a huge mound of clay which may have been adapted from an ancient site of worship. There are some Saxon features here, but it is the Norman and Tudor work for which the church is unique. The half timbered tower was added some time during the 16th century. Unusual features include a sculptured tympanum depicting the Agnus Dei between two beasts or grotesque creatures, a carving of the head of a pig, and most interestingly the "Black Letter Bible".
